A Browser Redirect virus or computer infection is when your browser is redirected to a site other than the one that you intended to view. While it is perfectly normal for a site to redirect a browser to another location, if your web browser is commonly redirected to tech support scams, advertisements for Chrome extension, unwanted programs, dating sites, or porn sites then you are most likely infected with some sort of malware.
When your browser is being redirected you will see messages such as 'Connecting to', 'Waiting for', 'Transferring from', or 'Processing request' in the browser status bar as shown in the image above. Also many times the site performing the redirect will have the word redirect in the URL in the browser's address bar.
There are three types of Web Browser redirect viruses, which are search redirects, homepage redirects, and ad redirects. Each of these different types are explained below.
What is a Web Browser Homepage Redirect?
A web browser homepage redirect is when you get redirected to a homepage other than your normally configured one. For example, if you have BleepingComputer.com as your normal homepage, but suddenly when you open your browser you are redirected to badsite.com and it is displayed as your homepage, then you are infected with a web browser homepage redirect.

What is a Web Browser Search Redirect?
A web browser search redirect is when you perform a search from a search engine or your browser's address bar and instead of going to your configured search engine, it displays search results from another site. For example, if your browser's default search provider is Google, but when you perform searches you are instead redirected to search results at badsearchsite.com, then you are infected with a web browser search redirect virus.

What is an Web Browser Advertisement Redirect?
A web browser advertisement redirect infection is when your browser is redirected to advertisements when you click on links in legitimate web sites. For example, if you are on BleepingComputer.com and you click on a link and are redirect to a Tech Support Scam popup, then you are infected with a advertising redirect.

What types of infections cause Web Browser Redirects?
Web Browser Redirects are typically causes by adware programs or unwanted browser extensions and addons. These types of programs are either installed manually or are bundled with free programs that you download from the Internet. These free programs include 'offers' that install unwanted programs that modify your web browser's behavior. This is why it is very important that you always check all settings and prompts when installing free software from the Internet.
As you can see, web browser redirects can be annoying and intrusive while trying to use your web browser. Thankfully, you can use the guide below to scan for and remove infections for free that are commonly associated with browser redirects.

Digital data is one of the most valuable modern “currencies” and it is essential that yours stays well protected considering how often this is the main target of the creators of malware. The Ransomware cryptoviruses are a prime example of a malware family that is solely focused on targeting the data of its victims and using it as a means of money extortion. The way all of this happens is actually rather simply – instead of harming the computer system or corrupting the files in it, a Ransomware cryptovirus uses the harmless process known as>Reboot in Safe Mode (use this guide if you don’t know how to do it).
